Dutch government on outcome referendum
Today the Dutch government has sent a letter to parliament in answer to the outcome of the referendum on the Association Agreement with Ukraine.
The government is aiming to find “a legally binding solution that does justice to the no vote in the Referendum on the Association Agreement with Ukraine”, as was expressed by Prime Minister Rutte on his Facebook page. The solution would have to address the main concerns expressed during the debate in society in the run-up to the referendum. The aim is to negotiate said solution before the European Council on 15 and 16 December 2016.
If the negotiations result in a solution, the government will submit a draft law on the entry into force of the act of approval for ratification of the Agreement. The letter to parliament has been published on the government’s website in Dutch and can be found here in English.
