The main tasks of the armed forces
The Defence organisation stands for peace and security, at home and abroad. It is one of the ways in which the Netherlands contributes to stability and freedom in the world. That also makes it one of the ways that it serves society at large. The Navy, Army, Air Force and Marechaussee can be deployed quickly and flexibly and can operate anywhere in the world, under the most extreme conditions. They work closely together with the Armed Forces of other nations , strengthened by mutual confidence. Equipped with modern materiel, responsible in its use of force, and, when necessary, at risk to their own lives: that is the Defence organisation.
The Dutch armed forces have three main tasks:
- protecting the integrity of national and Alliance territory, including the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba;
- promoting the international rule of law and international stability;
- supporting civil authorities in upholding the law, providing disaster relief and humanitarian assistance, both
nationally and internationally.Military personnel carry out these national and NATO tasks at home and abroad every day. Every year, thousands of Dutch Military personnel and civilians - both men and women - are deployed for peace missions abroad. For up to date factual information visit: mindef.nl

NIDV
The Netherlands Industries for Defence and Security (NIDV, Stichting Nederlandse Industrie voor Defensie en Veiligheid) promotes optimal involvement of the Netherlands industry with respect to procurements and assignments of the Ministry of Defence. However the NIDV does not limit its search for good business opportunities to the Netherlands, the Association is also active in markets emerging from co-operation between governments and in markets resulting from participation and offset contracts. The Netherlands defence market has a turnover of two billion euro a year.
The NIDV is open to any company located in the Netherlands that develops, produces or maintains products for, or delivers services to the Ministry of Defence. Additionally, Netherlands institutes, including the Netherlands Organisation for applied Scientific Research (TNO) and the National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR), engaged in research and development related to Defence are part of the target group. The NIDV is a non-profit organisation financed by yearly contributions from its members.
The NIDV represents its members. The opinions, interests and capabilities of the members are presented as efficiently and effectively as possible to the Netherlands government, politicians and the media. The association is in daily contact with the armed forces and consults members of Parliament on a regular basis. When matters of mutual interest in the defence industry need to be addressed, the NIDV collectively takes action on behalf of its members and other national trade organisations. The NIDV acts as mediator between governments, politicians, institutes and industry.
The NIDV mediates between foreign companies with an offset commitment and Netherlands companies. The NIDV also co-ordinates this with the Cluster Military Production (CMP) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Additionally, members are brought to the attention of foreign companies that call for tenders in the Netherlands.
